ABOUT THE DOCTORS
Gary Lai, O.D. is a San Francisco native. After receiving his undergraduate degree with a B.A in
Physiology from University of California Berkeley , he continued on and received his doctorate from
the School of Optometry at U.C. Berkeley. With more than 14 years of experience, he has worked at
University of California San Francisco, the Veterans Affairs Hospitals in Sacramento and Oakland,
and the Omni Eye Specialists in Denver. Before starting this new practice, he was the full-time staff
doctor in a busy San Mateo group practice for 5 years. Dr. Lai is a member of the California and
American Optometric Associations. He enjoys backpacking, mountain biking, snowboarding, and
photography.

Sharon Ho, O.D., F.A.A.O., also attended UC Berkeley as an undergraduate, with a B.A. in Molecular
Cell Biology. After receiving her doctorate from Southern California College of Optometry, Dr. Ho spent
an extra year of residency concentrating in Cornea and Contact Lenses at the prestigious Jules Stein
Eye Institute at University of California Los Angeles. She then went on to earn her distinction in
becoming a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (F.A.A.O). Dr. Ho has practiced in various
specialty pediatric ophthalmology offices. Her passion is contact lenses of all types. On her spare
time, she enjoys cooking and travelling. More recently, though, their new daughter, Dana, born in
August 2005, has become the love of their life.
The doctors are Board Certified Optometrists with privileges to prescribe therapeutic pharmaceutical
agents. This is the highest level of achievement optometrists can attain allowing the doctors to treat
eye infections and perform certain ocular procedures.
ABOUT THE STAFF
Paul Kang, ABOC, is a certified optician by the American Board of Opticianry and a contact lens
technician from San Jose, and has worked with numerous and very diverse optometrists in the Bay
Area. He attended U.C. Berkeley as an undergraduate and has a B.A. degree in philosophy. He
enjoys rock climbing, writing, and the art of motorcycle maintenance in his spare time. His favorite
quote at the moment is: “Ah, he has such a profound grasp of the obvious!”

ABOUT THE DOCTORS
Mitch Nagtalon, ABOC, started his optical career in the early 90's as an optometric assistant. With a
strong medical background and passion for optics, he has worked with multiple pediatirc, retinal,
general ophthalmology and optometry clinics in the past 15 years. Certified by the American Board of
Opticianry, he has worked closely with labs and maufacturers like Oakley to push the boundaries of
prescription lens technology, giving patients more options. Filipino native, Mitch loves cooking, the
outdoors, video games, the 80's, plays the guitar and keyboard and traveling with his wife Anna and son
Timothy.
