Dr. Gary Lai is the best optometrist I have every had! I look forward to our appointments. He's a great
conversationalist and doesn't talk down to you about eye care and health. I don't have eye insurance
so I have to pay for everything but it's still a pretty reasonable rate. But it is always a pleasure to go
there and I always leave happy.

Great service! I've been there twice and coming back for more. I know my eye glasses. I've been
getting them since 8th grade from many many places... this place is one of the good ones.

Not only was Dr. Lai thorough and fun to talk to, but it was very clear that he was extremely
knowlegeable. After the check up, the optician (Jim?) helped me pick out a frame. Even though I
took forever, he was unbelievably patient and offered great fashion advice.
I have nothing but good things to say about my experience, and trust me, I'll be telling everyone who
will listen. You will not be disappointed.

I went to Dr Lai expecting to get bifocals and came out with contacts that he had tweaked so that I
could read closely and drive at night still... I also purchased some very stylish eyeglasses that I have
gotten many compliments on. It was the most intensive eye exam I had ever had and was
impressed with the technology he used and his easy going nature.

Very pleasant experience. Just needed to update my prescription and order me some contacts
since my insurance gives some freebies. Very professional and clean facility and equipment.
Contacts came in less than a week. Parking is a bit tricky but I've always managed to park within a
block from the office. Recommended!

i can't say enough good things about him and his office. where to begin? he is incredibly
knowledgeable, personable and really takes the time to discuss things with you thoroughly. the
second time i walked into the office, Dr. Lai greeted me by name. he even recognized me on the
phone! their equipment is so advanced i don't think i could stand to go anywhere else and have that
god awful blow-in-your-eye machine used on me again. anyway, he helped me decide to get LASIK
and now my vision is so good, i'm sad i will not get to visit him as much anymore. now i'm sending
my husband to him. go to Dr. Lai, you will thank me.

Ok, I know I'm totally jumping on the bandwagon but Dr. Lai and Jim were just awesome to deal
with. I went in for a regular eye appt and Dr. Lai was very helpful in answering questions about my
vision. He even pointed out something about my prescription I didn't know before.
Jim was uber patient when I perused the glasses selection of which there are a ton. I would be
surprised if someone left empty-handed but having a real good vision plan helps too.

I had a great experience with Dr. Lai. I was introduced to Dr. Lai from a coworker/friend who had
seen him for an eye exam. Eager to find a good eye doctor, I followed her advice and scheduled an
appointment with him. I found Dr. Lai to be very knowledgeable. He explained each and every test
he was performing on my eyes and also explained the scientific reason that my eyes were red. After
the exam, I also found Jim to be very helpful. Jim helped me find a pair of glasses. Even though I
was very difficult to fit, Jim was very patient with me and gave me great suggestions. Not once did
he try to push a frame on me that I didn't like (they do that at Lenscrafters!).
I had a great experience and would recommend Dr. Lai and Jim to anyone in the San Mateo area!

reason to go to one of those industrial optometrist/mega eyeglass stores. The personal attention
and clear explanations of eyeglass, contacts, or LASIK options makes Gary Lai our go-to-guy when

Dr. Gary Lai is the best optometrist I've ever worked with. Period. He was totally scientific figuring out
how to get my prescription just right but he's also an easy guy to talk to as well. I first met him
maybe 6 years ago and when he opened his new place in San Mateo I followed him there. You
should too. You won't be disappointed.

The caring dynamic duo of Dr. Lai and Jim is the best one can ask for. I have been going to Dr. Lai
for years now and even followed him to his downtown shop. They always take the time to answer
all my questions and are just excellent all-around in their customer service. My glasses came in
promptly and I would refer them to everyone. Real genuine, personal service.

"Gary Lai is an excellent doctor! He took the time and extra effort to make sure my vision was better
than I thought possible. He was very accomodating to my weird schedule at the time and really
knows his stuff. Highly recommended... he knows how to treat his patients well... my vision
improved dramatically after seeing him. It was a huge improvement over my previous doctors at
Kaiser."

Excellent doctor and optician!
I've been to more optometrist's offices over the years than I can count, but this one really stood out.
The doctor is among the most knowledgeable I've ever met, and definitely the most patient. I never
felt rushed or pressured. And the young man who is the office's optician is just great as well. He
directed me to the perfect pair of glasses, and I have never been happier.
I would recommend Dr. Lai and Eyeworks of San Mateo to anyone in the market for a new
optometrist. The office is clean and beautiful to look at, they take my insurance plan, my new
glasses work better (and look better) than any I've had in years, and it's pretty easy to find parking -
which in this area is sometimes at a premium. What more could you ask for?

I'm been thrilled with the service I've received from Dr. Lai & Jim. I was referred by a friend who
raved about them and he was right. I ordered both contacts and glasses and hope to never go
back to the chain stores.
